In the spring a lot of people seek spring festivals to shake off the winter heaviness breathe in the fresh air.
Of the festivals, the cherry blossoms festival is quite popular. There are many cherry blossoms in many regions of Korea. If you want to revel in the cherry blossom leaves falling like the snow, try the Sacheon Seonjinri-seong (fort) cherry blossoms.
Sacheon’s Seonjinri-seong (fort) was a fortress built by Japanese soldiers that invaded Korea in Imjinweran (Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592). That is why some call it Seonjinriwe-seong meaning a Japanese fortress. Historical records have it that there were many other facilities both inside and outside Seonjinri-seong (fort).
What remain now of the fort is the traces on the small hill. The cherry blossoms come in full bloom in the spring to welcome large crowds of visitors. It almost looks as if to cover up the sad history with the beautiful blossoms.
