Sacheoneupseong Fortress , where the love of the king love for his people remains!
A line from Hwang Jin-i’s Chinese poem
'As the bright moon is in full bloom, why shouldn't you take a rest'
It is a place that comes to mind the most,
and its beauty shines even more on a moonlit night.

Sacheoneupseong Fortress, which said to have been constructed to
protect the people and ward off foreign enemies,
has now been established as a resting place for citizens of Sacheon.
The view of Sacheon-eup and the moonrise from the top of Sacheoneupseong Fortress is extremely beautiful.

Sacheoneupseong Fortress stretches from a portion of Jeongjeong-ri to Seonin-ri,
and the entire area, including the current site of Suyang Park, is the former site of Eupseong Fortress.

The fortress was constructed by Shin In-son, the vice minister of national defense,
through royal decree in the 24th year of reign by King Sejong of the Joseon Dynasty (1442).
Four years later, in the spring of the 27th year of reign by King Sejong (1445), all the buildings,
including the government building (for administration of public affairs) were constructed and Hyungi was moved from Jeongdong county to here.

In terms of the scale, the first record on the Fortress stated that it has a circumference of 3,015 cheok (1 cheok = 30.3 cm),
wall height of 10.5 ~ 11.5 cheok, and three each of gates and ongseong (crescent-shaped defensive wall).
Later record shows the Fortress has a circumference of 5,015 cheok, wall height of 15 cheok, 630 battlements (on top of the fortress wall),
and three each of gates and ongseong.
This suggests that there had been additional constructions to the initially constructed Fortress.

Although the Fortress was originally constructed to protect the people and ward off foreign enemies,
it suffered the humiliation be being trampled by the invading Japanese forces during the Imjin War.
At around September 28, 1598 thereafter, in the 32nd year of reign by King Seonjo (1598),
the Joseon army led by General Jeong Gi-ryong and the reinforcement from Ming Dynasty forged
alliance to fight a bloody battle to recapture the Fortress and drive the invading Japanese forces away.
At this time, the Nodeukgong, the head of guerilla force of Ming Dynasty was killed. The current Suyang Park,
which is a part of the old Fortress, has become a comfortable resting place for the citizens of Sacheon
with numerous rest facilities such as the Suyangru Pavilion and Octagonal Pavilions, etc..
