Parts of ancient stone walls remain around the temple site. Efforts went into reconstructing the temple using the debris that lied around the area. The temple that saved the nation, Baekundong has records of the monks fighting off and defeating the Japanese troops during Imjinweran (Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592). Moreover, this area is famous as the battle ground for General Yi Sun-shin where he executed his famous amphibious strategies.
